That is a tough question, and I will start with some simple facts. I am female and born in 1974, and I hold a degree in Master of Science in Engineering, Chemical Engineering. My job title is as exciting as 'Master of Science in Engineering' - yep, that's what it says on my business card - and my desk is placed in an internal It-department, where I am responsible for maintaining and developing a server park. Most people would state that my job corresponds to a system administrator (who would have guessed that from the title Master of Science in Engineering).
I live in a small town. Some would say that I am living in the country-side, but I don't agree with that statement. My house is located in an ordinary residential neighborhood. It takes approximately 10 min to walk to the nearest supermarket, and it takes approx 15 min to walk to the beach or the forest. I finally bought a car, which has given me a lot of freedom.
So, what do I do in my spare time? Well, it is spent quietly. Having a good time with family and friends are always high on my list. I also have nice neighbors that I spend time with, and we often go for long walks, enjoying nature and good weather. I also spend time playing in a couple of bands and when I'm home, I practice both the alto sax, the flute, the clarinet and wind synthesizers.
One of the questions I get a lot is if I have regretted the change from chemistry to computers. No, I have not. Both fields of work are very intriguing, and the advancements are huge in both fields. When I was studying for my Master's degree, I didn't attend the traditional courses. I took biochemistry, microbiology, and immunology and I miss studying those subjects. I found it fascinating to learn about the body at the micro-level.
